A survey conducted by the Institut Montaigne think tank shows that more than a quarter of Muslims in France follow hardline Islamic practices and almost half support Sharia law.

The study shows that 28% follow an “authoritarian” interpretation of Islamic texts that advocates a split from French Society, and 54% believe support the idea of Sharia law in France, with 14% of 15 to 25-year-olds supporting Sharia law.

The co-Author of the report, Hakim El Karoui, said “They (young French Muslims) feel rejected.  French society is sending them the message: you are not French.  In a way they are getting revenge by hanging on to the identity they have.”

The report was issued after a controversial decision to ban the burkini by mayors in certain French coastal resorts, who have refused to lift the ban.

Some in the media are speculating about a potential inevitable confrontation with Islam as indicated by the report, but politicians are not acknowledging it.
